Job Description: 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Team Management

  • Fair and constructive appraisals of team members at a regular frequency

  • Ensure that the team works in proper coordination and in sync with the plans – anticipate personal or professional issues and help sort them out

  • Should allocate tasks to the team members associated with the team and make optimum utilization of the human resource

  • For the growth of the team members objective feedback should be shared at consistent basis

  • Should mentor the team for their functional and technical needs

  • Should facilitate the technical growth of team members

  • Develop close working relationships with other members of the project teams (including client, product owner, development leads, and project managers)

  • Ensure that each team member is optimally occupied with work (i.e. each QA Engineer should not be too overloaded or too idle)

  1. Lead Project

  • Play key role to drive the requirement analysis phase. Should get involved in activities like functional specification document review, estimations, test scenario/cases design and review, test execution, test reporting, sign-offs, etc.
  • Act as point of contact for all QA deliverables of releases from project.
  • QA lead should be able to design test plan, strategy/approach document (as suggested by SEPG) and get it reviewed and approved/signed-off by the relevant stakeholders
  • Estimate the test effort and team (size, skills, attitude and schedule) and create the test schedule (tasks, dependencies and assigned team members)
  • QA lead should derive QA metrics and check project quality at regular intervals.
  • Should be able provide effort estimates for the projects assigned.
  • Track the new/updated requirements in the project and modify testing artifacts accordingly
  • Participate and drive client meetings and test reporting from QA side
  • Allocate task to the team member on daily basis and ensure all of the allocated tasks are brought to closure
  • Review test cases, execution, defects and all QA deliverables and ensure that review comments are brought to closure.
  • Ensure test environment and test data availability. Escalate and obtain resolution of the issues related to the test environment and team.
  • Review defect report(s) and assign valid defects to the relevant development lead
  • Own Build Verification Test and GO/NO-GO meetings (from QA end)
  • Could also involve himself/herself in test execution/documentation if and whenever required.
  • Should ensure that he makes optimal use of the time and should use efficiency tracking tools like Sapience to track time and bring about efficiencies.
  • Raise risk (internal & external) along with mitigation plan whenever required
  • Improve the test process based on the suggestions by others and own judgment
  1. Client Management

  • Communicate with client and represent QA team independently
  • Technically competent to consult client and answer to the technical questions posed by client.
  • QA Lead should possess good analytical skills to understand the business/system requirements and translate them to enhance quality of the application under test.
  • Should drive project demo and training calls
  • Organizational Initiatives
  • QA Lead should help in recruitments
  • QA Lead should help in campus drives if and when required.
  • QA Lead should help in organizing training for team member when and where required.
  • Liaison with Support, HR, SEPG & PPQA
  1. Pre Sales

  • QA Lead should have good analytical skills and should be competent enough to share QA Effort Estimates, technical recommendations, Scope and assumptions.
  • QA Lead should have excellent communication skills to talk to new prospects

Key Skills

  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Should be technically competent and should be able to drive multiple technical aspects of project independently.

  • Mandatory testing types: Functional (web & desktop), mobile responsive (web)

  • Should have understanding of: Mobile apps, SOAP/REST, Security, Automation (Selenium), CI/CD, UX, SQL, web services testing

  • Must have attitude to break the system and should be aware of all negative testing types such as Security, etc.

  • Should have good presentation skills & analytical skills

  • Should possess strong knowledge of Quality processes and testing tools JIRA/Rally or TestRail or HP QC (open and licensed)

  • A good leader who can handle multiple small projects

  • Should be able to troubleshoot basic issues in the project and provide solutions to team members.

  • Building technical competency of the team

  • Technical and business domain expertise

  • Mentor QA team members to match with the Project expectation

  • Plan and organize the knowledge transfer to the Software Test Engineers and self

  • Client issue management, escalation, risk & contingencies and resolution.

  • Compliance of the organizational quality processes

  • Provide support to Project Manager

  • Be updated on the latest testing techniques, strategies, testing tools/test frameworks, etc

  • Should be certified with ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board)

Guidelines

  • QA Lead should be able to lead a team of 5-10 people

  • Flexible timings
